15 Delightful Apple-Themed Books for Your Homeschool

ree

There’s just something about apple season, isn’t there? Living here in upstate New York, I can’t help but look forward to the orchard every fall. I even worked at Cornell Orchards when I was younger and adored trying all the different varieties of apples. Now, as a homeschool mom, I get to share that same joy with my children. Every year we pile into the car for a trip to the orchard—filling baskets with apples, sipping cider slushies, and of course enjoying a warm cider doughnut (my favorite!).

If you’re planning a fall homeschool unit or just looking to add some seasonal charm to your family’s book basket, apple-themed living books are the perfect place to start. These stories bring the orchard right into your home, mixing rich illustrations with engaging storytelling. I’ve gathered 15 of the best apple-themed books for children—covering everything from how apples grow to fun orchard adventures, to thoughtful family stories.

Here’s a list you and your kids will love this fall:

3. Apples to Oregon by Deborah Hopkinson (Ages 5–9)

This humorous tall tale follows a pioneer family hauling apple trees (and other fruit trees) across the country. Witty and fun, it’s a fantastic read-aloud that highlights both apples and American history.
